Redeemer Reformation Church - Rev. Brian & Julie Cochran If we were to compare the growth of Redeemer to some natural phenomenon we would likely compare ourselves to an oak tree. It’s been a long and slow growth. However, in God’s grace He has preserved us and caused us to grow both numerically and spiritually, even through heartache and struggle. Over the past five years in the URCNA Redeemer has experienced slow but steady growth. We currently have 31 professing members, 13 baptized members, 8 covenant families and a total of 44 souls. Redeemer is in an important location in Canada. There are no other confessionally reformed or presbyterian churches (who are members in NAPARC) in all of Saskatchewan. The nearest sister church is six hours away in Winnipeg, MB or Lethbridge, AB. Because of this we experience the struggle of isolation but it is also a joy and privilege to represent our federation in the fastest growing city in Canada and the capital of Saskatchewan. Regina’s current population is about 238,000 and according to one recent report that ranked the best places in Canada to live and work, Regina was ranked number 1 out of 50 (with Saskatoon, SK coming in third). Because of this we receive a lot of visitors from those moving to our city from other parts of Canada and from all around the world. We also receive many visitors from our sister churches who drive through our province for work or vacation. Almost every week we see a new face. We hope you will visit us soon!
Thankfully, as of late, many have stuck around seeking a God-centered, Bible believing, Gospel-preaching church that confesses the great truths of the Reformation and loves one another. We just finished a membership class with five adults (two are married with children) and immediately re-started the class for a new group of seven adults (one with children). We also have a couple families from sister churches who are seriously considering moving here. Most of our members and visitors are from a diversity of ethnic, socio-economic and church backgrounds. It is a blessing to witness the Gospel of Jesus Christ uniting people from all different walks of life. This is the most potential for growth we have had in five years. Please pray that God would add the growth in his own perfect timing! We also have grown closer as a church family over the past five years in the URCNA. Through attending to the means of grace on Sundays, Sunday school, monthly potluck meals, mid-week men’s and women’s Bible studies, hosting an annual volleyball tournament with our sister churches, and other events we are growing in our love for God and each other. We are thankful for God’s sustaining and sanctifying grace!
Pastor Brian is almost done with an officer’s training class and is thankful for the men who have stepped out in leadership over the past year. Pray that God raises up new men from within our midst to serve as elders ad deacons. We are also thankful to the churches of Classis Western Canada who have generously given financially to us through the Needy Church fund over the past five years. And thank you to all who have supported us. Because of this we have been able to continue holding forth our only comfort in life and in death of belonging to our faithful Savior Jesus Christ in the city of Regina. We hope and pray we can re-establish as an organized church and plant mores churches in Saskatchewan. May God the Father continue to preserve us by His Spirit through Christ as we proclaim Christ, abide in His love, and look forward to His return. To God be the Glory!
