Rev. Mihai Corcea

Bucharest, Romania

“Biserica Evanghelica Reformata Bucuresti” (Evangelical Reformed Church of Bucharest)

“Biserica Evanghelica Reformata Bucuresti” (Evangelical Reformed Church of Bucharest) is a URCNA foreign mission located in Bucharest, a city of 2 million people and the capital of Romania. The religious affiliation of people in Bucharest is 97% Eastern Orthodox, 1% Evangelical, 1% Atheist and 1% other religions. Even though the overwhelming majority of people identify themselves as Christians, their Christianity is often just nominal.

After graduating the M.Div. program of Westminster Seminary California in May 2016 and passing his candidacy exam in Classis Southwest US, Rev. Corcea was ordained by Christ URC and sent back to his home country Romania to plant a confessional Reformed church in Bucharest. Although there were several Romanian Reformed Churches established during the 16th century, they all died out in the 19th century, leaving the Romanian people without any established Reformed denomination.

The core group for this church plant was started in 2011 by a handful of Christians who became Reformed by reading Reformed books and meeting Reformed people from other countries. Following Rev. Corcea’s return to Bucharest in August 2016, a small church plant was formed under the oversight of Christ URC Santee. The small congregation worships in a rented meeting place downtown Bucharest.

Pray for the small church plant in Bucharest that the Lord would bless the ministry of word and sacrament and work in the hearts of the people who hear the gospel from the Reformed pulpit in Bucharest.
