REGINA, SK - CANADA

Redeemer Reformation Church - Rev. Brian & Julie Cochran

If we were to compare the growth of Redeemer to some natural phenomenon we would likely compare ourselves to an oak tree. It’s been a long and slow growth since 1975 when a small group of believers started meeting in homes in hopes of establishing a reformed church in Regina. However, in God’s grace He has preserved us and caused us to grow both numerically and spiritually, even through heartache and struggle. Over the past eight years in the URCNA Redeemer has experienced slow but steady growth. We currently have 52 professing members, 20 baptized members, 19 covenant families and a total of 72 souls. Most of our members and visitors are from a diversity of ethnic, socio-economic and church backgrounds. It is a blessing to witness the Gospel of Jesus Christ uniting people from all different walks of life.

Redeemer is in an important location in Canada. There are no other confessionally reformed or presbyterian churches (who are members in NAPARC) in all of Saskatchewan. The nearest sister church is six hours away in Winnipeg, MB or Lethbridge, AB. Because of this we experience the struggle of isolation but it is also a joy and privilege to represent our federation in the one of the fastest growing cities in Canada and the capital of Saskatchewan. Regina’s current population is about 238,000 and is consistently ranked as one of the best places in Canada to live and work. Because of this we receive a lot of visitors from those moving to our city from other parts of Canada and from all around the world. We also receive many visitors from our sister churches who drive through our province for work or vacation. Almost every week we see a new face. We hope you will visit us soon!

Thankfully, as of late, many of our visitors have stuck around seeking a God-centered, Bible believing, Gospel-preaching church that confesses the great truths of the Reformation and loves one another. We have an active membership course that runs every fall and spring. As of the fall of 2017 we have three families and two single people in the class.

We also have grown closer as a church family over the past eight years in the URCNA. Through attending to the means of grace on Sundays, Sunday school, monthly potluck meals, mid-week men’s and women’s Bible studies, youth gatherings, and other events we are growing in our love for God and each other. We are thankful for God’s sustaining and sanctifying grace!
In 2015 we ordained two Deacons who have faithfully been serving since then. As of the writing of this update we recently nominated two men to serve in the office of Elder. Please pray for the Lord’s wisdom and guidance through this process and that His will would be done for the good of His church and for His glory.

We are also thankful to the churches of Classis Western Canada who have generously given financially to us through the Needy Church fund over the past eight years. And thank you to all who have supported us. Because of this we have been able to continue holding forth our only comfort in life and in death of belonging to our faithful Savior Jesus Christ in the city of Regina. We earnestly pray that we can re-establish as an organized church and plant mores churches in Saskatchewan. May God the Father continue to preserve us by His Spirit through Christ as we proclaim Christ, abide in His love, and look forward to His return. To God be the Glory!
