Horton, Michael S.

Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2016

Michael Horton has written multiple single-volume systematic theologies – as well as a multi-volume dogmatic theology that is not included on this list – that provide entry points for believers from a wide range of backgrounds and levels to engage with theological reflection upon Christian doctrine. Core Christianity is the most basic and introductory, and includes an apologetic aspect that makes it really useful for new believers or curious unbelievers. Pilgrim Theology is a more robust volume that would be suitable for officers or more invested laity. The Christian Faith is most suitable for elders or ministers looking to engage more deeply with systematic theology. The strength of all of Horton’s volumes is a strongly covenantal approach and a serious engagement with historical sources, both within and outside the Reformed tradition.
